Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu Meets with South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Anna Thandi Moraka

On August 4, 2026, Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu met with South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Anna Thandi Moraka, who was in China to attend a conference.

Miao Deyu noted that during the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), President Xi Jinping and President Cyril Ramaphosa jointly decided to elevate China-South Africa relations to an all-round strategic cooperative partnership in the new era, providing strategic guidance for bilateral relations. Over the past two years, the two countries have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and deepened cooperation across various fields, injecting strong impetus into the development of both countries. President Xi Jinping announced the zero-tariff treatment for all African countries having diplomatic ties with China, which has effectively boosted China-Africa economic and trade cooperation. China stands ready to work with South Africa to firmly support each other in the process of achieving modernization, further expand cooperation in governance, electric power and energy, artificial intelligence and other fields, deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthen coordination within multilateral frameworks such as BRICS, and jointly safeguard multilateralism and international fairness and justice.

Anna Thandi Moraka noted that as important members of the Global South, South Africa and China share broad common interests and deep political mutual trust. It is the firm position of the South African side to uphold the one-China principle and develop relations with China. She expressed appreciation for President Xi Jinping’s announcement of the zero-tariff policy for Africa, which helps elevate the overall level of Africa-China cooperation. At present, the South African government is stepping up efforts to advance its development strategies for economic diversification, decarbonization and digitalization. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and do business in South Africa to support the country’s industrialization and modernization process. The South Africa-China friendship has withstood the test of the changing international landscape. South Africa stands ready to strengthen solidarity and coordination with China in international affairs, jointly address new global challenges, and safeguard the common interests of the Global South.
