Musk clarifies reasons why he changed his view on Trump
Musk was an early backer of Trump’s 2024 return to the White House and was appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), created to cut federal spending. However, their alliance unraveled after Musk resigned last month and began criticizing Trump’s major legislative package—the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” The bill, signed into law on July 4, includes massive spending increases, deep cuts to social programs, and a higher debt ceiling.
Their falling out has turned into a public feud, with Trump accusing Musk of receiving more federal subsidies than anyone else in U.S. history and even suggesting he might consider deporting the South African-born businessman.
In response to the bill’s passage, Musk officially announced the formation of a new political organization, the America Party, pledging to represent the “80% in the middle.” He plans to make the party operational in time for the 2026 midterm elections, aiming to influence legislation by focusing on key congressional races where slim margins could give his candidates decisive power.
